If We Were Having Coffee

The usual hangout is bustling with excitement today as the writers and bloggers gather together to discuss their busy weeks. School, university, college, work and general life have sucked the time and energy we enjoyed freely during the summer holidays and now time is a premium commodity we have to conserve wisely.

I have a new friend I’ve been wanting to sit down and chat to…ah there she is at a table full of familiar faces.

I push way way through with my multi-coloured rucksack that has seen better days and plonk myself next to Trent who is halfway through a cup of strong french roast! After I greet everyone at the table, I lean over to say hi to Carolyn and ask her how her week has been. Sick computers and a sore back seemed to have been the downside to her week, but I’m looking forward to hearing about the rest of it.

Hugh waves to me from his table with the Lit World crew. They are thinking up ways to bring down the Ice Queen in the Scottish Power saga which we all agree, should not have happened to Hugh. He has done a fab job on reviewing Cyril’s book which is on my wish list to read this year. Cyril has kindly bought me a hazel nut hot chocolate and sits down next to John who is telling us about his awful day on Friday. I can’t help but laugh at his misfortunes as he has a way of telling it with dollops of humour. Gene’O has just come in for a quick coffee and Chris the Musclehead follows in. Yup, it’s a busy Saturday morning at our favourite hang out.

I think back to my own week and breathe a sigh of relief that it’s over. One broken down car, several appointments missed and the first week back to school for my kids made it somewhat challenging. The upside was I bit the bullet and joined the November writing challenge which is something I’ve wanted to do for many years , but didn’t have the guts to commit. For some crazy reason, I feel confident that I can finish the book, though I still have my commitments to finish other projects before the December printing rush!

Ali draws my attention as she bursts out laughing over something someone wrote over the Halloween Masquerade Ball she held. We all agreed it was great fun and something to be repeated. I lean over to Angeleyes and promise I will post more kitty pics in the upcoming weeks, maybe a couple with the tuxedo cats dressed to impress!

Trent asks me how my writing is going and I sigh, explaining that my plan to reach 15,000 this week has failed. JMLibby gives me a gentle shove and tells me to buck up girly. She is awesome and has been my support throughout the week. I am hoping to attend a write-in at a local library to emmerse myself with local fellow Wrimos and to catch up on lost time. That is, if I make it. We have a special anniversary to attend today and I haven’t even thought of what to wear with only a few hours left. It will be a case of raiding my wardrobe and fashioning out something old with a new scarf. I don’t know. I ask around for suggestions from the fashion goddesses sporting their beautiful outfits whilst I lounge in my skinny jeans and long buttoned down shirt with black boots – standard uniform for me. Maybe they won’t mind if I turn up like that! Effort!

I ask Trent what he’s working on now and comment about the lovely story he posted the other day. There is a soft touch to my shoulder and I turn to give Chris the Story Reading Ape a hello hug. He has been very busy with his new author interviews and reviews. I point him over to Lit World Interviews as they have so much in common to talk about. Great minds ‘n all! Which reminds me, I must sign up to his Read Tuesday – Meet the Authors page.

I check the time and yes, it’s time to jet out into the brisk autumn air to my next destination. Swigging back my last dregs of coffee, I quickly do the rounds of goodbyes and promise to come back another day. Quick paw kisses to Angelswhisper as I walk through the crowded shop.

With a heavy heart I leave the warmth of the coffee house and friendships that brighten my day. Until next time.

  5. Yep, I saved the spot just for you : ) I like the new, original twist you put on the weekly coffee post. I think what GeneO does is great and works well for him, but I think each of us other weekly coffee hosts need our own take. I hope you can reach your writing goal this week.

I’ve been having trouble finding the time to connect with the local NaNo crew…which is why I am so glad for all of the internet-connected folks who are participating!
