Wine o’ clock

I love long lines of traffic, moody children complaining in the back and the scowling sky threatening to cry out to the world below. Love the stress of trying to balance a workday with after school clubs and meetings for four different children preparing for their new year in a new class (two at new schools!). Love the plucky looks of parents eyeing out my dog hanging out the back window as I park because he’s decided to make himself sick and nearly die, and me spending sleepless nights watching over him then going to work.

Yup. It has been fun.

Suffice it to say, I am declaring it wine o’ clock and all my worries be damned! As I pour my glass of Shiraz and slip into my oversized pjs that don’t match but are the most comfortable clothes I possess, I feel bubbles of excitement fill my body. The thought of a night of relaxation with XXX on Sky (yes, of course I love Vin Diesel but not in the way you would think – I want to be him, not be with him!!) and my secret stash of Turkish Delights just waiting for me, I plan on forgetting the pending appointments for the week ahead, the deadlines on books I still haven’t finished writing and my start with the Open University where I will be studying a degree in English Literature and Creative Writing.

Yes folks, the future may be bright and filled with opportunities, but just for tonight, I’m taking a break.

Please, be kind and leave reviews for my books. I will try to keep posts flowing on my blog but they will be intermittent (as they have been for the past few weeks). Apologies if I miss your posts. I will try to keep up but a few will fall through the cracks.

If you need me, send me an email or contact me through my social media sites. I’m still around, just focusing on not drowning under children, work, studies and pets!

Hugs to you all.

Weekly Poetry Challenge

Colleen, the Fairy Whisperer, has shared her weekly poetry challenge, which is open to everyone.

“Welcome to my contribution to my Weekly Poetry Challenge, where you can write your own Haiku, Tanka, or Haibun using the prompt words of “soar and wait.” Colleen Chesebro, The Fairy Whisperer

This week, I thought I would dabble with tanka poetry for my contribution.

Following the instructions I have created my tanka using the 5-7-5-7-7 rhythm and the prompt from above: soar and wait.

My Soul

Give it a try and leave your links in the comments or on Colleen’s post.

Sunset romance

A fragile as glass
Heartbeats slowing
As shadows run past

Twighlight’s fever
Purple bruises so dear
The pain of living
In love’s final sphere

Dusk is moaning
Orange passion now gone
Blues are holding
Vigil over love’s song

Night creeps over
The warmth of the sun
Ink is spreading
Love’s colours have run

Is It Time?

Brush the crumbs from your surly face

Wipe the sweat from your brow

Tear the bands of disgrace

Is it time to say good-bye?
Wash your hands filled with regret

Stain the sheets back to white

One less moment to be discreet

Is it time to say good-bye?
Release my hand before you go

Tell the loved ones your surprise

Herald out to all those you know

If you think it’s time to say good-bye
I will stand here in the sand

Watching time tick by

Fading bit by bit as each day  washes away

Wishing I had the strength to say good-bye
As we sit and share this last meal

Heating ourselves on loves’ dying embers

Memories locked on our current world of fantasy

As we both finally say good-bye

Goodnight

Goodnight, though the candle burns strong

Goodnight, close your eyes and dream on

Wish for an hour, maybe two

More than what we had before I said goodbye to you.
Goodnight, as the shadows draw near

Goodnight, whilst you hand chases my fear

Wishing for your touch to never end

Our short time, if only we could extend.
Goodnight, now there’s no excuse

Goodnight, I have to set you loose

Wishing that my lips never left yours

Soft, sweet sanctuary where I am forever yours.

Something different.

Some fun before the year ends… Continue reading

Betrayed By The Moon

Betrayed by the moonAlienated from her waning smile

Living in the fiery heat of noon

Reprieve lost in my sarcastic guile.
Drowning in the dewdrops at dawn

Flowers crying for lost embraces

Silence as the twighlight mourns

Failure to show the moon my graces.

Burning in the midday sun

My passion’s sultry dance retracing

The poor flowers’ happy song

Hiding blushes from their hearts racing.
Show me to the moon

My betrayer with her beguiling tone

Apologies might be enticing

When my heart cries not to be alone.

Poem of the Heart

  The sadness within is self-inflicted

Giving my heart to a stranger, a woe

Time is as unforgiving as the witness

To the strangulation of my love that’s grown.
Each to his or her own danger

Of loving the jailor of your heart

Mine is such a tragedy

For I find it impossible to part.
Take heed from my experience

Keep safe the pumping organ inside

Save it from the myriad of tragedies

Blowing in with life’s flowing tide.
