Advice

Giving advice to a friend is as dangerous as loading a gun and pointing it at your head. Your opinions are loaded with your own personal regrets, flavoured with your life experiences and coloured with your jaded view of the world.

What makes your advice relevant to your friend’s pain and need for direction? Your own experience in the same vein? Does that mean you know it all or could give better life choices for him or her. Does it take in their character and natural response to things that happen in his or her life?

I wonder.

Feelings!

Balking at your pure hatred of me
The sheer size of such ego feeds my curiosity.
Shirking warning signals from your horsey smile
Warnings blazing, telling me to run a mile,
I enter with bated breath to see how far you carry
A chip so large your shoulder looks saggy!

Beatings, abuse, neglect I feel
Not by your temper but lack of greeting skill!
Alas, should I cry with laughter or shame
At a lack of etiquette, upbringing of Cain?
Seismic laughs shake my brain
As you insinuate my existence is lame.

Poor integrity on your part I see
The last resort to un-name me.
Address my neighbour with such gusto
Eyes sharp as lasers to watch me cringe so.
As though I cared when in advance I declared you inept
And wash my hands of any predisposed debt
To allow you to shame me with your art of hypocrisy.
What you show your son, is that what you show me?

Un-hand the red letter, release your lust of hate
No apologies will be uttered to clear the slate.
Two cats as male lovers? Not I think.
You have a better chance of cleaning out a skunk’s stink!
The same emotions I feel for you,
You reciprocate with fervour
Ending my dealings with you. Therefore I shall not mention you further.

Children

Our children are dying
Hear their cries outside
Limbs and bodies flying
From the past we cannot hide

Their tears keep flowing
From promises we never keep
Young aching hearts moaning
Broken spirits, a refuge they seek

Lands divided now empty
Futures laid in waste
Weren’t we tasked with knowing
That history repeats its mistakes?

The blood we spill darkens
Mirroring the day’s end
Tomorrow the silence will sharpen
As another baby’s life ends

Conflict!

Remove the anger, remove the greed
The illusion of grandeur,
The right to besiege.

Remove the hurt, remove the unkind
Remove those who spread it
The lies that lie behind.

Give way for peace, make room for love
The value of life should rise above
The anguish of nature, the right to conceive
Our freedom to live our own lives and breathe.

No matter the danger, no matter the pain
Step out of the darkness, drive out the insane
Whose call is louder? Which side wins the day?
Well that’s the problem. Just look at those we slay.
