Welcome to Book Tuesday.
This week, we are taking a trip to Pensacola, Florida, where there is a special swamp filled with creatures we never get to see unless we are truly lucky. It is a place where a young girl called Abby fullfils a prophecy that is detrimental to the survival of mankind. The story is called The Heart Stone Chronicles – The Swamp Fairy written by Colleen Chesebro.
The story begins with the untimely death of Abby’s mother, who had always taught her to control a special gift. That gift, if left unchecked, could be overwhelming for anyone, especially someone as young as Abby. With no-one left to care for her, she becomes a ward of the state and is sent to live with an aunt she has never met based in Florida.
Abby’s secret gift grows stronger and the reason behind it becomes apparent once she settles into her new life. Her new found friends don’t realise just how powerful this young girl is and the special secret she holds on the plot of land left by her mother; that is, until danger confronts them all. With the love of her new-found family and friends, Abby has to find the strength and belief within herself to stand against a man who threatens the lives of the fairies hidden from world in her solitary swamp land. Just how far she goes to protect the swamp and her fairy friends will leave you satisfied and content with this story.
I enjoyed this book because it was written in a style that not only suits a younger audience, but has the ability to capture a more mature palate too. The story line was strong throughout and I found myself relaxing into the characters and believing in the adventure, something I find hard to do if the plot is holier than my hairnet!
Far from pushing the boundaries of my imagination as most fairy tales do, I immersed myself in the wonderful history of the nymphs protecting the forests and seas in their different clans with their different purposes. Theirs is a world carefully crafted for future delightful adventures, which I look forward to once the author has time to finish off the rest of her collection of books. Colleen is indeed a fairy whisperer and she has shared her secret world with us in her first Heart Stone Chronicles book. Needless to say, I bought my own Heart Stone necklace (which is available on Etsy – click here) as the story was very endearing and to be honest, who wouldn’t want a pretty necklace with a gorgeous calcite stone that is linked to fairy power?
It is easy to be swept away by a good story-teller and dropped into a world that keeps you so spellbound, you can’t wait to return before the ink dries on the next book. That was my experience of the Heart Stone Chronicles – The Swamp Fairy by Colleen Chesebro.
Thank you for joining me on this magical journey and please click on the pick below if you would like to order your copy of the Colleen’s special story. Don’t forget, the biggest compliment you can give an author is a review on their book.
Reblogged this on Lance Greenfield and commented:
I know both Colleen and Eloise and I can tell you that they are both wonderful story-tellers. I haven’t read The Swamp Fairy yet but it is on my TBR stack and I can hardly wait to get stuck into it.
