The Fountain

We danced together
On a starry night
Their twinkling faces
Shining in delight
I waltzed round rainbows
You flaunted your jive
We laughed like children
Happy to be alive.

I danced round the fountain
In the dead of night
Dark clouds above me
Rain drops in flight
You smiled as you watched
To shy to partake
In the step, quick step,
Rumble and shake.

We danced together
As the water sang
Bells from the church tower
Heralding midnight’s clang
Beats to the footsteps
Our foxtrot clear
I miss that fountain
And memories so dear.
