International Writing Competition for Young People

James BondINKHEAD are a group of writers in London who run creative writing workshops for young writers. Every year they also run a worldwide
short story competition for young people between the ages of 7 and 16. The thing that sets it apart from other competitions is that everyone receives a critique – winners get a long one, everyone else something much shorter.

The task is to write a story under one of the following titles:-

  • Dangerous Diana’s Downfall

  • The Spy At No. 10

  • Welcome to the Hacienda

  • Astronaut Adventure

  • Who’s Laughing Now

length: 1000 words maximum

Entry fee: £5 per story – special arrangements for schools, libraries, youth groups.

Age categories:

  • Category 1 – 7 to 9 year olds

  • Category 2 – 10 to 12 year olds

  • Category 3 – 13 to 14 year olds

  • Category 4 – 15 to 16 year olds
